The Challenge

Regional news portals often suffer from "Information Overload," with cluttered layouts that make it difficult for readers to focus on the story.

The core challenges were:

• Clutter Reduction: Presenting diverse regional news without the typical "busy" look of mainstream media.

• Accessibility: Ensuring the site is easy to read for people with varying levels of digital literacy, especially local MSME players.

• Focus on Impact: Highlighting local business success stories (UMKM) as the primary focus rather than just general news.

Our Solution

We adopted a "Content-First Minimalism" approach, stripping away unnecessary decorative elements to focus on clarity and community value.

• Ultra-Clean Aesthetic: We utilized a soft white and neutral grey palette, accented with a professional yet friendly green or blue. This creates a calm reading environment that reduces eye strain and feels trustworthy.

• Simplified "Bento" Grid: The homepage uses a clean, modular grid where each news item is clearly separated by ample white space. This "breathable" layout helps users distinguish between categories like Success Stories, Regional Policies, and Market Tips.

• Typography-Centric Design: We selected a high-legibility Sans-Serif font with generous line spacing. This ensures that long-form articles about MSME development are comfortable to read on both large monitors and small mobile screens.

• Regional-Based Filtering: To make news more relevant, we designed a simple, one-click "Region Selector" at the top of the page. This allows users to filter news specific to their local area without navigating complex menus.

• "UMKM Showcase" Spotlight: We created a dedicated, visually distinct section for MSME success stories. These cards feature high-quality imagery and "Impact Badges" to celebrate local achievements, making the platform feel like a supportive community hub.

Results

The Sokoguru website became a benchmark for regional news portals. Its "Clean and Simple" design successfully lowered the entry barrier for local entrepreneurs, resulting in higher engagement from regional users and a 35% increase in time spent on educational MSME content.
