Media Indonesia
A major digital overhaul for Media Indonesia, one of the nation's most respected news outlets. We redesigned the portal to accommodate high-frequency content across diverse categories, introducing a modern grid system that harmonizes editorial excellence with a non-intrusive, high-performance advertising strategy.

The Challenge
As one of the most respected national news outlets, Media Indonesia manages a massive volume of content daily across dozens of categories (National, Politics, Economy, Lifestyle, etc.). The challenge was to modernize the interface without losing its journalistic authority.
The core obstacles were:
Content Saturation: Organizing hundreds of daily articles into a cohesive, scannable layout.
Monetization vs. UX: Integrating various advertising formats (banners, native, video) without obstructing the core news-reading experience or frustrating the user.
Rubric Diversity: Ensuring each news section (rubric) has its own space while maintaining a unified global brand identity.
Our Solution
We implemented a "Structured Modernism" framework—a design philosophy that prioritizes content hierarchy and visual breathing room.
Dynamic Modular Grid System: We moved away from a static list format to a flexible, component-based grid. This allows the editorial team to highlight "Breaking News" or "Editor’s Picks" using varying block sizes, creating a visual rhythm that guides the eye naturally through different rubrics.
Seamless Ad-Architecture: To solve the ad-fatigue issue, we designed "Native-Integrated Ad Slots." Advertisements are placed in strategic breaks between content sections or within the sidebar using a responsive container system. This ensures that the ads are visible to sponsors but do not overlap with the article text or navigation menus.
Optimized Reading Experience: For long-form journalism, we focused on "The Reading Flow." We paired a high-legibility Serif font for article bodies (to maintain professional credibility) with a clean Sans-Serif for interface elements. We also implemented a "Reading Progress Bar" and "Adjustable Text Size" to enhance accessibility.
Intuitive Rubric Navigation: We developed a "Smart Sticky Header" that includes a sub-menu for popular rubrics. This allows users to jump between sections (e.g., from Economy to Opinion) instantly, reducing the bounce rate and increasing pages-per-session.
Performance-Driven Mobile UI: Since most news is consumed on-the-go, we optimized the mobile version to be ultra-lightweight. We used "Lazy Loading" for high-resolution images and "Simplified Ad-Containers" to ensure fast load times even on limited data connections.
Results
The redesign transformed Media Indonesia into a cutting-edge digital news hub. The portal now successfully balances business needs with user satisfaction. Key outcomes included a higher engagement rate on niche rubrics, improved ad-viewability scores, and a significantly cleaner, more professional aesthetic that cements Media Indonesia’s position as a digital leader in journalism.
